Don't be fooled by the food truck or location in equating it to a bad experience. The food is AMAZING! The owner is friendly and nice. I've had the chicken and rice. It was delicious. Highly recommend.
Okay, I love me some halal chicken over rice and this spot did not disappoint! I ordered the mix over rice and a chicken gyro for lunch through Uber Eats and while I live a good distance from the restaurant everything was still hot when it arrived. The rice, chicken, and lamb are all seasoned amazingly, it isn't just drowning in white sauce, and is freaking delicious. The portions are generous, enough for two people althoughhhh I did not share bc I couldn't stop eating it I wound up saving the gyro for the next day since I was stuffed, threw it in the air fryer and it was just as good as it would have been the first day. If you're a chicken over rice fan like me and you haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for ???
Might be the best Middle-eastern food in the Columbus area. Definitely the most affordable.....great value given the large portions. One plate can easily serve 2 diners. It's a food truck not far from a freeway exit so really no ambiance, but convenient. The 1-2 persons in the food cart were efficient and nice. We received a can of soda for each of the plates we ordered. The chicken was shredded and had a mild curry seasoning. The lamb was tasty gyro meat, cubed rather than slices. The falafels were crunchy yet moist. The white sauce and the spicy sauce added flavor and moisture to the dishes. The rice was flavorful even w/o sauce. Each plate also came with a smattering of veggies and a few pieces of tasty pita bread. Bottom line, even though the menu is limited (about 12 items), you can't go wrong ordering any item.
Very Conveniently placed food truck! They we quick with the food! Took 10 minutes it was made on the spot. We got a lamb gyro and the mix over rice! Super filling and the sauces were delicious the hot sauce was the perfect heat level. There is enough parking and you basically pull up right next to the food truck. A little noisy just being next to Cleveland Ave. but over all super delicious we will be back!
This place has great food. Tastes better or as good as the original places in New York. The staff is great and you can call ahead of time.
Food was amazing. Very flavorful. Good portions! Will definitely be coming back. Chicken over rice 10/10
I wanted something different and came across this truck riding by. I decided to try the combo over rice. Lamb and chicken over seasoned rice with a little lettuce and chopped pita on the side. The chicken is SPICY but I loved it. Service was fast. Affordable for portion size and comes with a drink. I ordered extra lettuce and pita for$1. I'd order again if I have the taste for it and I'm on this side of town.
Im all about the Halal food ESPECIALLY it takes amazing. Best customer service and I love the energy of the people cooking and making the food. VERY WELCOMING ! Check this place out yall.
Our power was out a week ago so my husband and I decided to pick up some cold beer & dinner. We went to a cigar & carryout shop on Cleveland Avenue and this fantastic food truck was in the parking lot. Dinner needs solved! We would strongly recommend the 'over rice' options. I ordered the mixed gyro over rice with hot sauce and tzatziki sauce. The portion was large. It was hot, fresh, and delicious. My husband ordered the lamb gyro and would definitely skip it in the future. But he was happy to share half of my meal!
New York Style Halal Gyro (NYSHG) is building off the popularity of halal lamb/chicken over rice that initially served as inexpensive fuel for NYC cabbies, but took off in popularity in the 2000s. Its rendition of the classic lamb/chicken/mixed over rice dish is an excellent one, better than The Halal Guys of 53rd and 6th in numerous ways. First, NYSHG seasons its rice and chicken with plenty of spices to ensure they're suffused with plenty of tasty flavors and aromas. It's not dried-out chicken and tasteless yellow rice. A small salad is provided; it's iceberg lettuce and tomato, but still better than what you'll get at Halal Guys. I really liked how the pita is chopped and then grilled with herbs, which I thought was a nice touch. The service is friendly and excellent. The portions are generous, easily enough for 1.5 or 2 meals. And it all comes with a drink for only $7. Halal chicken over rice is a dish that is pretty formulaic and easily replicated, so it's really hard for a shop to stand out over the others. From a comparative standpoint, I'm hesitant to give NYSHG five stars. But from a strictly qualitative, objective standpoint, NYSHG's food is delicious and a great deal. And its service pushes it over the top.
